I am excited to be back in Andalucia this Autumn for a magical and unique collaboration between Free People and Yogascapes. I will be leading daily immersive and soulful yoga along side my fellow guide, Maggie Harssen, who will bring her Shamanic wisdom to the retreat, leading us through ritual and ceremony.
The fertile lands of Andalucia remain suspended between the sea and stars and serve as the ideal host for our Spain yoga retreat. In this magical setting we will weave daily ritual into our lives, learning about time-honored local customs and world-wide traditions. Studies have shown that performing a ritual can increase enjoyment and perceived value. On this yoga retreat, we will study the art of ritual as a way to infuse our daily lives with meaning, using Spain’s rich history in the subject as a guide.

Casa Dana sits on the hillside just beneath the traditional whitewashed village of Gaucin. The villa is set in stunning gardens which will be in full colourful bloom at this time, as will the hills with wild flowers. The views from the terrace stretch over the Spanish hills and coastline to Africa and beyond… you can lose yourself in the horizon for hours. There are seven beautiful and individually decorated bedrooms and plenty of corners and caverns for reading and relaxing.

September 17th is Ganesh Chaturthi, the festival celebrated in honour of the elephant-headed god Ganesha. The beauty of myth is it gives a vehicle by which to navigate human experience, to explain the world through a particular perspective.
Ganesh is considered the bearer of auspicious beginnings, the remover of obstacles – however he doesn't just clear the path, he teaches that when challenge arises it is an opportunity to grow, to learn and understand that we have the power to stand up transcend and expand.
The asana focus will be work with a creative vinyasa sequence to gather a strong sense of grounding Ganesh is associated with muladhara, the first or root chakra, which guards the gate of the body and is symbolized by a square. A way to embody Ganesha’s great strength and fearlessness is through asana that emphasizes the root chakra. When we wake up and restore our root chakra we enable a strong sense of self.
Expect a steady and challenging flow where we move through asana (postures) with a strong sense of grounding, drawing strength from the earth to our midline to burn away perceived obstacles, finding softness and freedom at the heart.
The workshop will close with a guided meditation and deep relaxation (savasana).
Some vinyasa yoga experience recommended.
Vinyasa Flow Workshop: The art and spirit of the practice.
The art of vinyasa yoga is rooted in the teaching methodology of T Krishnamacharya.
Krishnamacharya, considered the father of mondern yoga, teacher to BKS Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois, developed an order or methodology by which to approach learning yoga. This methodology was called Siksana Krama.
'Siksana' - The act of the learning; acquiring knowledge
'Krama' - The way in which things are ordered, sequenced; method; procedure
I was fortunate enough to study this method in detail at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai. In this workshop we will learn some of the principles behind his method and explore careful sequencing towards specific asanas to find your deepest space and potential.
We will work with particular focus on a breath centered and easeful flow, working to open the body to a greater capacity as move 'kramically' towards a range of both moderate and more complex asanas, which will both challenge and inspire. The workshop will include led meditation and pranayama.
As always the class will both strengthen and restore.

Vinyasa flow workshop.
This workshop will focus on the merging of breath, movement and sensation as we ride the current of our practice. We will explore moving with grace and steadiness within the flow, holding a steady center in the constant flux of energy and feeling and to sit within the midst of heightened challenge.
Expect creative vinyasa flow, rooted in intention and explored with reference to teachings from the Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita.
Come prepared to work hard.

A calming 90 minute workshop. The first half will be a beautiful steady flow where we will move gently and mindfully with close attention the breath and body to open the body, mind and heart. The second half of the workshop will include breath work and guided meditation. The workshop will close with a blissful savasana and head/neck massage.
A strong, dynamic and joyful workshop with soulful music, creative sequencing and expressive movement. You will flow through a full spectrum practice (including standing asanas, arm balances, backbending, inversions, hip openers & forward folds) as we dive into the rhythmic connection of breath and motion.
The focus will take us through each of the 7 main chakras (energy centres) with mudra, mantra, visualisation and meditation to deepen the experience.
We will be focus on cultivating grace and awareness through smooth, fluid transitions whilst finding ease, strength and steadiness as we linger into the deeper asanas.

Strengthening and releasing the the pelvic area creating space and greater ability to move into beautiful backbends.
This workshop will incorporate a strong and dynamic full spectrum vinyasa practice with emphasis on moving within the full range of motion in the hips and exploring the freedom this allows to dive deeply and safely into backbends. The dynamic first half of the workshop will be followed by a slower and steadier dialogue with the body, returning to asanas for a greater length of time to work deeply into the hips, releasing tension in the spine allowing for backbends.
We will look at why the hips hold so much tension and use the tools that yoga offers to work through any resistance. There will be pranayama (breathing techniques) integrated into the practice to explore greater depth and dance with the blissful sensations that yoga evokes.
The workshop will close with a guided meditation and blissful savasana complete with head/neck massages.
All yogis will receive nutritious treats and heartwarming tea to reward and nourish their hard worked minds, bodies and souls.
Expect to work and breathe hard.
