Flow & Beyond: A Soulful Summer Yoga Retreat

YOGA . MEDITATION . RITUAL . SUNSHINE . NATURE

Retreat

We hope you can join us for 5 days in the wild land of northern Portugal for Flow and Beyond: A Summer Soulful Yoga Retreat led by Mischa Varmuza.

Mischa will lead daily immersive and soulful yoga practices, where we will dive deep into movement, breath, stillness and ritual.

We are blessed to open the retreat the day after Summer Solstice, a powerful time to be in nature and to work with intentions and prayer. We will begin our time together with a joyful practice and ceremony honouring this longest day of the year.

Each day will begin with meditation, breath and intention, followed by a long exploratory yoga practice, woven with myth and stories, music, chanting and ritual. The morning session will be a dynamic and flowing practice to both challenge and restore the body and mind. The afternoon practices will vary between softer yin and restorative work and focused workshops on themes such as the chakras or inversions. Mischa is experienced teaching both retreats and mixed level groups and the classes are suitable for everyone and anyone bringing a willing and curious mind.

Mischa’s love for guiding retreats stems from the immersive nature of the environment, giving time and space to go deeper into the practices and ourselves. She loves to explore ways of bringing the magic and awareness that yoga awakens into the spaces between our time on the mat. Therefore amongst the yoga classes there will be opportunities for creativity, journalling, conversation and rituals to inspire our minds and our sadhana (daily practice) for when we return home.

Venue

The retreat takes place in a private manor house which dates back to the 17th century with recent reconstruction bringing you all the comforts of modern contemporary life. This rural property is set in 16 acres of gorgeous, green and natural scenery.  The property includes comfortable en-suite bedrooms, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis court and a lake. Recently, a pavilion was built near the swimming-pools and surrounded by gardens to provide a dedicated place for your daily yoga practice.

Location

The house is located in the oldest village of Portugal known for its exclusive production of Vinho Verde wine.  The house is situated 43 miles from Porto airport, 45 miles from the city of Porto, 12 miles to the beach, 3 miles to the village of Ponte de Lima and 35 miles to Parque Nacional Peneda-Geres.

Mischa Varmuza

Mischa’s yoga journey began over a decade ago and slowly began to weave its way through her life; she is continually humbled and inspired by the potential of yoga to transform, expand and heal and is devoted to sharing the practice with others. She holds enormous gratitude to leading vinyasa flow teacher Claire Missingham with whom she completed her initial 200 hours and went on to assist for some time afterwards.

Most recently Mischa finished an additional 300 hour training with her teacher Sianna Sherman who is of enormous influence and inspiration to her. She has now stepped into apprenticeship with Sianna and assists on her workshops, retreats and trainings. Mischa has spent over a year in India studying, practicing and visiting sacred sites and it holds a very special place in her heart.

She teaches a heartfelt practice with creative sequencing, a deep focus on breath and alignment and a combination of strong steady flow and longer holds to both uplift and tap into the stillness. She draws her understanding from a number of styles and traditions, particularly inspired by the philosophy and practices of the Tantric lineage. Her classes are woven with philosophy, myth and stories and include music, chanting and ritual. Mischa is also studying the Priestess tradition which supports her work with ritual, ceremony and the deepening of relationship with the Self, one another and nature. In a retreat environment the practices offered are incredibly diverse and always expand far beyond the students expectations as Mischa weaves in layers of influences from her personal practices and study to create a unique and beautiful experience.

Mischa’s teaching is passionate and knowledgeable, her intention is to both challenge and restore, holding a space for individuals to open, reflect and absorb. You will be taken on a joyful journey of self inquiry and unfolding. Mischa is committed to her own study and practice as the foundation of her teaching.
